Archive use policy

1. Purpose
This policy explains how archives presented on the site may be viewed, cited, shared or reused. It is intended to protect people, contributors, creators, rights holders and the community mission of Rétro Queer Montréal.
2. Viewing and permitted sharing
You may view the archives and share links to site pages for personal, educational, journalistic or research purposes. Sharing should preserve the archive’s context, credit and a link to the original page whenever possible.
3. Reproduction and reuse
Images, documents, audio, video, text and metadata may not be reproduced, published, modified, sold, included in an exhibition, used in a commercial production or distributed at scale without written permission, except where the law clearly permits it.
4. Copyright and personal rights
Some archives may be protected by copyright, moral rights, image rights, privacy or other rights. The presence of an archive on the site does not mean that it is free of rights or may be reused without permission.
5. Respect and context
Queer history may involve sensitive information. Archives must not be used in a way that ridicules, stigmatizes, unnecessarily exposes, harasses or endangers a person, family or community. Uses must respect the historical and community context of the documents.
6. Correction, removal or information requests
If you hold rights in an archive, recognize someone, notice an error or believe a publication raises a safety or privacy concern, contact us through the Contact page. Requests will be carefully reviewed in light of applicable rights, historical interest and possible risks to the people concerned.
7. Changes
This policy may be updated as the project evolves, new collections are added or publication practices change. The date at the top identifies the current version.
