About

Rétro Queer Montréal is an independent volunteer project dedicated to the memory of the places, people and LGBTQ+ communities that shaped Montréal.

The project documents bars, cafés, bathhouses, organizations, shops, restaurants and gathering spaces that offered places for meeting, creation, solidarity and resistance at different moments in time.

Our approach combines documentary research, public and private collections, period newspapers and testimonies shared by the community.

Rétro Queer Montréal is a living archive. The site evolves as new sources emerge and people share their memories.
